When you buy rtv2 silicone rubber to make mold, you should know how to tell the quality of the silicone. There are some points-

1. Shelf life. Normally, shelf life for tin cure silicone rubber is 12 months under 23 degrees. The silicone will become very thick after one year. If supplier said shelf life is 6 months, you should pay attention to your project. PS: the storage condition is very important, if temperature is very high, the shelf life will become shorter.

2. Viscosity: it is very important for you to cast it into the mold frame. If the viscosity is too high, it is difficult to pour and air bubbles cannot be degassed easily.

3. Tear and tensile strength: this two propensities will affect the casting times of the silicone molds. Especially for the concrete, stone and so like heavy large products. The mold will be easy to break if tear and tensile strength is poor.

4. chemical resistance: silicone should be resistant to PU, resin, concrete oxidization if you are producing this kind of products.

5. shrinkage: silicone mold should be low shrinkage, it is 0.3% for tin cured silicone and 0.1% for platinum cure silicone. If the shrinkage is large, your product will be smaller than you expected.

 

Of course, the mould maker is also very important, we should be make a perfect mould and stock it well.
